Career paths and crests
Every kind of building is a path you grow into: multifamily, industrial, retail, office. Work one hard and you climb from Bronze to Osmium, with a crest, a title and perks to show for it.

How a path grows
Your rank is your career as a whole. A path is your name in one kind of building. You don't pick one: every path grows from what you do in it, and most players end up known for one or two. Path XP comes from:
- Closing a deal on that kind of building: 10 XP, plus 1 for every $500K of price (up to 20 more).
- Buying one: 15 XP.
- Business plans: 8 XP for each stage you finish, and 20 for the whole plan.
- Taking a building up a tier with upgrades, and the path's own signature moves (below).
Each item counts once, so path XP never goes down. Everyone starts every path at its opening level. The first time a path reaches Bronze, Career Paths opens on You, with a card for each path.
Bronze to Osmium
| Level | Crest | Path XP |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | Opening | 0 |
| 2 | Bronze | 80 |
| 3 | Silver | 350 |
| 4 | Gold | 1,000 |
| 5 | Osmium | 2,200 |
Each level up gets its own page: the path's crest in its new metal, your new title, and what the level gives you. A focused player reaches Bronze in their main path in their first year and Osmium late in the career; a generalist may reach Gold in two paths and Osmium in none.

Signature moves
At Silver, each path gets a move only specialists make, offered as a card on one of your buildings of that kind: unit turns on apartments, big-box leases in a warehouse, an anchor tenant for a retail center, a tenant improvement package for office floors. Higher up come 10-year industrial leases and office-to-residential conversions. Each one pays path XP too.
Buildings for specialists
Each path has its own niche buildings, 96 in all across the four: garden apartments and student housing, last-mile depots, and more. A path's niche buildings start coming onto the Market once that path reaches Bronze. At Osmium, the path's two flagship buildings come up for sale, the ones only a master of that path ever gets to buy.
Your nemesis
Separate from the district rivals, each path has a specialist rival who notices you once your path reaches Bronze. About once a year they snipe the best listing of their kind before you can, and each has a trophy for beating them. They're named in the month-end reveal when they first notice you, and in the news when they move.
